You, like the majority of domestic guys, wrongfully assume all imports = Honda. First of all, technically European cars and Korean cars are imports as well...not Japan only. Secondly, I'm actually attempting to emulate a domestic with my project: my torque goal is 450 at the wheels, HP I dont care as much about. Granted I'm using a DOHC Inline turbo engine instead of a pushrod V roots, but thats where efficientcy and practicality come in.
You have fun with that, you wont be seeing 450 ft lbs of torque till higher up on the rpm range, where as a nice domestic v8 will be making that at 2500-3000 rpms
