What you are describing is rod knock due to a spun bearing. Yes u need a rebuild. Since u have a Wrx this would be a perfect upgrade for u at half the price of a new one. You can use your existing heads. All you would need in addition to this motor would be a rebuild gasket set and a few misc items

PTP can hook u up with everything you need. I got the block.....Andy got the pistons.....and james can drop them in for you. Hell u might want james to just do the whole swap for u etc.
