WTB: 1G turbo Talon/Eclipse in decent mechanical shape
I'm looking for a 1G turbo DSM to buy. Needs to be in good mechanical shape, but not too concerned with the exterior or interior. Have 2K to spend.
hi, I have a 91 fwd gst that I am willing to sell. I'll tell you the whole story behind the car; if you're STILL interested, let me know. I bought the car via ebay ($1200) from a kid in orlando, and the next day the it overheated, and the water pump was leaking like crazy. I had a shop replace the water pump, and timing belt, for the discount price of $1100, haha. The car ran fine that day, the next day the car quit on me. After quite a bit of troubleshooting, I pulled the plugs and found the #2 plug was crushed. I ended up buying an engine from AA Auto Salvage in Orlando after discovering that the engine would be cheaper than repair costs (engine $500, repair $1K plus!). When I bought the car, the tranny was shot, grinding every gear. I purchased a rebuilt one from a guy named lancerman/Jerry on the tampa dsm forums, and installed the tranny and engine. Current status: I drive the car daily to and from work, the car leaks a little bit of oil, enough that I check it daily to make sure it's ok. I put a new GT Headers ported exhaust manifold on it, and the turbo has no shaft play. There is an exhaust leak between the turbo and manifold, I haven't had time to mess with it. The turbo spools, but starts spooling at about 3k and reaches full by about 5k-ish. It should reach full spool by 2.5k, but this exhaust leak or leaks is preventing it, as far as I know. Body is ok, few minor dings and minimal rust. rims are 18" ADR, with tires needing to be replaced sooner than later. They all have been curbed, they were that way when I bought them for $350. The rebuilt tranny doesn't seem to engage fully in reverse, it will reverse, but it's noisy. All of the other gears shift great. The ac works, but doesn't get ice cold. I think it's just a matter of reseating all of the connections to the compressor and recharging it. The interior is great. New battery, plugs, timing belt, and all fluids. I have a injen intake w/a 2g mas for it, just haven't put it on because it will require bigger injectors. Prothane motor mounts installed. I have another turbo, with no shaft play, and the old tranny for maybe a rebuild if you want. Let me know if you have any questions.
