TKO 500 and 600 are the same except for the input shaft and some minor differences.
3550 uses a completely different case.

The original TKO was 3550 based. Uses a different shifter than the 500/600 TKO. Original 10 spline is rated 350 lbs. The 26 spline is rated 450 lbs. The 500 is rated 500 and TKO 600,.. well 600.

Not trying to spoil your sale,.. but should'nt lead someone into believing they are getting a TKO 500 when its 3550 based. They are different. Unless of course it is 500/600 based?

A picture would solve this.

Edit:

Here are pics of my TKO's

The first is a TKO 600
Notice the case and the shifter.

.

.

This is an original 3550 based TKO. Both have 26 spline input shafts and 31 spline out put shafts. But are very different from each other.

.

This is what a 3550 based TKO shifter looks like. The TKO 500/600 shifter has all 6 bolts spread the same. The 3550 TKO shifter has the front 2 bolts narrower than the last 4.

Here are the tags from both transmissions.

You can reference the numbers on Tremecs web site.

( 260 0708 )This tag comes back as 3550 based TKO, rated 425 lbs, 26 spline input, 31 spline output.

.

.

( TCET5201 )This tag comes back as a TKO 500. 10 spline input shaft, I dont remember what the output shaft spline count was. The transmission was modified by MMR anyway and is 26/31 now.

.

3550 and 500/600 are different. Rated differently etc etc. If you had a transmission that resembled a 500,.. then perhaps you did indeed have a 500. That or you just didnt look close enough. Look at my pics. I'm showing you the differences here. I have one of each.

Also,.. when you go to buy a shifter for TKO,.. you have to specify,.. 500/600 based,.. or 3550 based.

Then perhaps your buddy was duped?

Look on Tremec's web site. All the info you need is there.

Plus I've shown you pictures of the differences.
I know your scratching your head because maybe you thought differently.

Chad the picture of yours is either a 500 or 600, Hurst is correct and also the 3550 will have a 28 spline output and the 500/600 will have 31 spline.
