Opinions on Oil for trubo applications
I use synthetic simply because it doesn't leave dark varnish and sludge buildup in the engine. An engine thats been maintained with synthetic will have a nice golden/titanium color while dino leaves a dark varnish and sludge buildup in areas.
I don't believe either will make the same engine perform any better but seeing first hand the difference in the long term I opt to use synthetic. For roughly 4 times a year and what amounts to $100 in oil its not really that bad.
Just a matter of prefference and engine cleanliness for me.

Its never to late to switch to Synthetic. The benefits in a turbo car will far oughtweigh any downside.
The reason why people say not to switch from regular to synthetic is because synthetic oil does not cause o-rings to sweel as much. This means that in an older car, you may cause leaks to develop. But in reality newer synthetic (incl. Mobil 1) have additives that pretty much make that problem a non-issue.
Mobil 1 10w-30 is the way to go.

Personally, I'm a standard oil type of guy, Mobil specifically. I can't justify the cost.

i use royal purple full synthetic in my 94 gst. it keeps the engine alot cleaner and it just works with no probs. i used regular when i first got it but i soon converted to synthetic and felt, seen and heard a difference. either mobil 1 or royal purple for me. my turbo loves it.
