Default I wanna turbo the stang...... I got questionz..

Hey all, I wanna turbo my 88 GT at one point in my life, no time right in the next year cause of money problems but I eventually want a turbo.
Anyone know a good place that does turbo manifolds for fox bodies and anyone that maybe already have a turbo'd stang and if so pics?
I wanna turbo my stang so bad, please let me know if there are good places around the St.Pete Tampa area that will do turbo applications.......
thanx
chris...

may be cheaper to make your own header/turbo manifolds. Or customize ones from other cars, to work on yours.

2 Garret T3 turbos from FWD Dodge cars 1986 to 1991 will work great. You could probadly use the manifold flanges and just have them welded on a set of header with a little fab work and exhuast setup, etc.

If your looking to use 1 turbo your gonna prolly want a rather large one, since you have alot of exhaust to deal with. Your gonna outspool a t3. You may get away with a t4... not sure. either way, it's gonna get pricey. www.turbodrivenconcepts.com is a pimp place to start. Good price, quality product.
im talking 15 pounds at the track, and u really think thats alot?
What would that be hp wise u think?
And TDC is expensive!
I dont want a twin. I think the only fox body shit they do is twin and they include all the bullshit, I dont want a 5 grand turbo setup!
im not rich ehh

To run those kinds of pressures you should also lower your compression ratio to around 8:1.

You should also be able to get at least 400 HP from a healthy 5.0 running about 15 PSI.

Turbos are easy and cheap to rebuild yourself.

You can pick up turbos at the yard for about $30 each. Then you need to come up with piping and such.. May run $1000 after your all done and push real close to 15 psi with twin T3s. The T3 from the Dodge cars is designed to run on a 2.5 litre engine, so 2 would be a perfect match for cubic inchesof 5.0, and most likey flow also.

I would guess around 125 hp to 150 from the twins. Maybe more, depends on tuning and intercoolers and piping sizes.

Its all about velocity.

why would you need to balance a working turbo?

Rebuilding a turbo doesn't always mean you need new turbines.. usally the bearings are what needs replaced and the main shaft gets warped.
However damage can be worse and don't get a turbo thats is trashed. pull one and check it for shaft play. Usually yard turbos are fine and a bad one can be picked out very easy.

When ever you get a custom turbine they are balanced when they are made.

My friend rebuilds them and he has the presses for the bearings and its really not very hard. Its the hybrid turbos that cost tons of bucks to make.

For the cost of a $30 turbo, just run the bitches til they break and replace it with another yard unit. Most turbos last a long time, if they are water and oil cooled.. and given time to cool down.....
