Some cars HATE BOV's, and require diverter/bypass valves..
For instance, late model VWs run like absolute crap with a BOV...
If you want something to replace the factory diverter/bypass valve but is of much higher quality, look at the Forge 007 valves. They are dimensionally pretty close to the factory bosch valves, but no diaphragm to blow out and tunable for higher boost.

that is true, usually mafs cars will need the bov to be recirculated back into the intake tract. But you can still run a regular blow off valve and just recirculate it if it gives you problems.

Like I say, being a Volvo its probably got a Bosch valve in it, and the Forge 007 will go in place of the Bosch without any mods.. And it is louder. I have one set up as a bypass valve on my beetle and you can hear it every time I let off.
