Default MAF installed in Coldpipe????

Ok, another question...

I found this info on another forum and don't see why it wouldn't work, I've just never seen it done this way.

A blow through maf is where you place the maf in the intercooler piping. Most likely in the cold pipe. It gives you better readings and you can run an open atmosphere BOV without stumbling. The closer the maf is to the throttle body the better.

So...should this be the route to go on my S14 or is placing it after the air filter where it needs to go?

Thanks,
Tyler

that is all fine and dandy , works great until the top on the z32 maf blows off because they all leak , if you are running a stock maf it might create more of a restriction than being placed in front of the turbo ..."untill someone provides dyno numbers of before and after I vote restriction"{on stock maf}

Restriction? It's 2.5" in diameter so if you run a 2.5" coldpipe it wouldn't be because there is only like a wire hanging through the center, but I see what your saying if it were on a 3" pipe then the transitions would be the restriction, not the MAF itself right?

yeah, i beleive so. Measured it the other day to figure some piping sizes. It's the stock KA24DE MAF if you weren;t aware.

This is commonly done with DSM's. Try to get as much space between your BOV and the MAF, and the TB and the MAF as possible. Disruptions in airflow lead to irratic MAF readings.

are you talking outer diameter or INNER...

there is NO fucking way in hell the hole in the middle is 2 1/2 inches dude this is the ristriction I am talking about.

this one is but it is hacked and the sencor is put into a new pipe that is straight threw , but with this mod I bet it wouldnt be able to hold alot of boost due to the cheap construction so it would be good for draw threw...

Umm, mine looks like the latter of the two, smooth straight bore all the way through with the dangly sensor, but it's stock. Changed in '97 - '98 ?? I'll get a pic of it.

Oh, the three inches is outer diameter I believe but the wall thickness is very small so ID is like 2.8" or so.??

There are plenty boosted maxima's running the setup you're asking about, so i don't think there will be any issues.

sweet deal! I think a little bit better of a reading could come from one installed in the cold pipe due to a longer path of travel for the turbulance of the air to settle, but then again I'm pulling this outta my ass. Soo..o
Thanks for your replies fellas.
