well, with a centrifugal supercharger your not always in boost, and it just acts somewhat like a belt driven turbo, but still causes more strain on the motor, as the motor is still spinning it.

with roots...your in boost all the time and that kills the N/A gas consumption.

the reason i say it takes away power is because its the truth...your adding more rotating mass with belts and pulleys that needs to be turned by the engine, your going to lose power.
and i know people think turbos restrict exhaust, but have you ever tried spinning the impellers on a turbo? one nudge of the finger and itll spin for a good time, they are not as big of a restriction as they are percieved to be. and yes, they do get hot, so do superchargers though, thats why there are aftercoolers/intercoolers...but like you said, all poweradders have pro's and con's....and im just a very turbo biased person, thats all.

If you can keep your boost to back pressure ratio close to 1:1 then the turbo is not really taking away power.

Its the equivalent of running your engine inside a pressure tank and doubling the pressure will close to double the amount of air your engine can process in that pressurized enviroment.

There is no way an air compresser connected to your crank shaft can start to compare with that thermodynamic model.

Turbocharged aircraft and industrial motors are actually better than 1:1 but they also are engineered to have a .5-1K RPM sweet spot.

I can see a motor with a 8K RPM range requiring some severe turbo sizing compromizes but a big turbo on a motor with a small RPM rage would be much easier to maintain optimum ratios for.

Since most of what they teach in engineering is industrial or aircraft related it keeps things simple since automobiles are one of the few engine applications where wide RPMs ranges are required.

hhmmmm, but i dont think a turbo and carbed engine would get along too well anyways, so im definitely goin supercharger...the gain far outweighs the loss so hopefully i'll be happy with it. plus a supercharger sounds sooo much sweeter

i gotta agree a supercharger has a very distinct whine to it, well most anyways... kinda like aharons cobra...that thing just sounds orgasmic...

ok, not to burst your bubble or anything but your not gonna get 8k cash for your signing bonus. i was supposed to get 12k but all that money gets taxed buy the state that your base is in and 27% by the military. you'll prolly get around 5k of that money up front. i had a 12k sign on and only got 8750. my friend got 10k and only got 6750 of it.

Military? Damn, and I thought we had a budding NFL star on our hands. Bummer.

On to important shit. Carbs and turbo's work just fine together. This is mostly Mustangs, but there are Cehvies here too...also some S? stuff. Speaking as a recent supercharged guy...I'd go turbo.
