Question LS Vtec turbo set-up

Ok I'm on a mission to see whats what and how to get it down right the first time out.... I am starting to biuld up a B-18 LS vtec motor and want it to handle something like 15-20 pounds of boost... First of I'm woundering what all needs to be done to the block itself to prepare it for this amount of stress... Second will there be any major affect on the vtec head itself.... I have heard and don't quit full understand yet that I that I have to get a apex controler to have the vtec cut off so the turbo can kick in and take the rest of the rpm range..... I dont get it, why cant the VTEC stay in while the turbo is on??? I'm turbo and license illiterate on the subject.... or direct me to a: LS Vtec Turbo 101 link.... thanks for any info..... "gotta dip out to werk"

Who have you been talking to?

VTEC does not have to be turned off when you have a turbo..

I am assuming that with the boost numbers you stated "15-20lbs" you already know there is ALOT of money involved to have a reliable setup...

PM me if you want to know more, there are also a couple of guys running good LS/VTEC Turbo setups on this board besides me.

Sleeves, pistons, rods, block girdle, bearings. Machine work on the vtec head(drill, tap, weld, plug, dowel pins, etc), oil lines...those are your basic Ls-v setup that you will encounter. Not to mention all the turbo stuff. I know what needs to be done, but I would suggest you doing a search as this can get very spendy in a hurry when building it correctly. I can help you out, but I would look into the Ls-Vtec conversion searches first.

thanks for the info, See I have managed to pull a LS B-18 block that has had the v-tec head on it before.... So you can say at least that part has bee done.... Currently I am looking for a Morroso Oil pain "5 qt" and an oil cooler.... Starting w/ the block first.... My wondering is this I dont know the person that owned or biult the block but I was there when the head came off... How can I tell if it has been resleeved or w/ a Vtec head would it have been resleeved to handle what was on it??? I do know that the there is rods and ARP bolts on it all ready, but not sure about anything else... hit me back and let me know anything about what to look for....
