Default View from my balcony

Open, positive C&C is welcome. If you can't say it nicely, please don't.

I wasn't particularly happy with the first one. I noticed that on my 70-300mm I get a lot of haze at night from the city. Will a ND filter help correct that? It's really hard to get the moon, so any tips for shooting the moon at night would be awesome!

Thanks. Except the more I look at the first one the more I hate it.

Any tips for shooting the moon properly?

ND will make it worse. You need to shorten your shutter speeds. Long shutter speeds are why you have a trail on the moon.

Also, counter intuitively, shooting at night requires higher f-stops. f/11-16 will typically get you the least amount of haze and lens flare and just shitty artifacting like you have in that first shot.

For moon shots a quick shutter speed is best. The longer your shutter the more the light from the moon will bleed in and make it just a ball of light instead of capturing detail. In a situation like yours to capture both maybe use a tripod and take 2 frames, one exposed for the city and the other exposed for the sky, then layer mask it in on photoshop. Just my .02
