Night probably, but if you are still just beginning, day can be difficult too.

You still will also be slightly hindered by your equipment...

Make sure the horizon is as level as possible to start, and like Lisa said, check the composition and make sure nothing it "growing" out of the car, like trees, poles, etc. And don't cut off body parts unless the shot you are taken is composed properly and whatever it is you are trying to focus on really IS the main focus...

 

^ya i think my main problem is the focus. is there a way to get the focus right? all i have for "equipment" is my camera and a tripod

Well focus can be what you are trying to make as the focus of the shot, in this case the "focus" or point/subject for the picture is the car(s). Actual focus of the picture in terms of where the camera is focusing will be determined by if you can manually select or set your camera to the point where you want it to focus on. Like say with my camera, I can essentially pick 51 different spots to focus on looking through my viewfinder. So it all depends...

Also, look out for negative space, for now, until you get good at how to compose a shot properly. Negative space is just a bunch of open/free area in a shot. It can work/be creative when done right, but it will take practice to get the eye and get it to work. So for now, try and focus on just the car and keep it as full as you can in the frame of the shot.
