no shit it cant be compared to the 50d! The 50d is in D300 territory now.
you cant always compare apples to apples.
the video works like a p&s would take video. except this is way better and badass.

Hmm, being Chase Jarvis must suck...
I gotta say, even as a Canon user I'm really excited about this.
With a daughter on the way, I'd like to have the option to shoot video in the future with a high quality camera. Nikon releasing this will mean Canon has to kick things in gear, and a Rebel series camera with video will be a perfect backup in a year or so.

I've already made the switch once, and we've got a bit invested in Canon gear now for wedding use...
I'd only switch back now if Nikon called wanting to give us the gear
Besides, I have access to HD video cams if I really need them, so having it in my dslr would mearly be a convenience.

Its really not all that great. As I said to chris earlier, It's the ultimate soccer mom camera. Video is useless on a DSLR. Never once have i gone out to do a shoot and been like "damn! if only i could shoot some video right now!!!"
I know its a novelty thing, I would probably use it for shits and giggles.
But I honestly think this is a mini-300 and would be a sweet compliment to it. As if the 700 would be a great backup for a D3.
Again, money doesnt grow on a tree and I'd really have to weigh out a lot of options if I'm going to be working at a photog store lol
Versatility and ease of not having to switch lenses all the time, or still keep building the up the glass collection? Dun dun duuuuun
