Why is it that.....
but doesn't that eventually turn into a scenic image that includes his car for proof he was there?
Take your sig for example: your G35 looks cool at the top lookout from HWY 129 (Dragon's Tail) in Tenessee/North Carolina. But if you posted 20 more shots of your car at 20 different Tenn/NC landmarks, they would eventually be about the landmarks, not the car - right?

so in your opinion a car shoot shouldnt take more than about 5-10mins tops
Not really, it can certainly take one hour or all day. I think it starts with a detailed discussion about the car with its owner, then some time for the photographer to generate a vision of how each important detail is best showcased. Then there is always set-up time, using different angles at differnet settings of the same detail, getting a good motion shot, etc..
Dont get me wrong, the location is sometimes very important, but I just dont think it it should be the primary focus for a car shoot, which after the 3rd or 4th image into a 20 image set, it becomes more about the location if only the outside of the car is shown at 20 different ones.

To make a long story short: the car is the subject, that's that. The only background is the only part of an image that the photographer gets to choose, right?
On the other hand, I agree with what you're saying which is why you don't see me posting seventeen shots of one location. Part of being good at photography is knowing when your shots are good and when they should be cut.

Way to cut to the chase there Chris!
However, seventeen shots of the same car at the same location can be interesting, but not seventeen shots of the front and side of the same car at seventeen different, distracting locations.
Oh well, I'll let this thread go quietly and painlessly - thanks to all who participated!

The background is as important as the object being photographed. A photo with a well planned out background will always look better than one you don't plan out, such as in your own driveway. The background makes the photo.
This is TR anyway, we do what the f*** we want!!!

Agreed. I think you make a valid point, as a whole there aren't many detail shots on TR. I guess most of the shots you see here are destined for members rides, and full-car shots are mostly what you see in MR.
You haven't even let it go through prime time yet, at least ride it out for one night and see why people disagree with you.

Yeah I guess youre right, I just felt the thread beginning to go in the driection of an endless "circle jerk".
