I had my car painted at the Maaco on Anderson/Hills and had all of the overspray you describe above, as well as some Premium Grade gravel embedded in my rocker panels. I paid about 700 bucks for that paintjob, IIRC.

You realize that the painters your insulting forgot more than most of the painters at Maaco know, right? The paintjob looks decent from the pictures. Congratulations. But don't go insulting the masters of the trade by insinuating that the bargain job you got compares to a good paintjob.

I'm not insulting anyone. I just don't understand how anyone can say, "ALL Maacos suck and do poor work." It just isn't so.

The quality of the job received depends on which Maaco you go to, how talented (or untalented) the people who work on the car are and how much money you are willing to spend.

Sounds like you went to a Maaco that employed either untalented or uncaring people or both. And I'm sorry you're experience was a bad one.

I did my homework, talked to everyone who was involved in the job before it began and I watched the work being done.

It was a pain in the ass but it was worth it.

lol the "a" in toyota is crooked. nice job maaco. the reason 99% of Maacos are no good is bc they receive a lot of rookies who just finished their certification to work for them. They pay them $9 an hour to paint cars. Honestly, no great painter is going to work for $9 an hour. thats peanuts

-I highly doubt they primed this car entirely. it would be a complete waste of time. and for the price you paid its not worth for them to spend 2 hours priming it.

-They DID NOT polish this car either. so do not even lie. a proper wet sand and buff would be the only thing to do to a car after its painted that makes sense. and they DID NOT wet sand and buff. that's easily $200 extra at maaco. just polishing a freshly painted car makes no sense and is a waste of time.

lol so true maaco sucks if your just trying to freshing up the look of your paint then yea by all means maaco for 700 includes the following: overspray like a bicth, runs, cheap ass clear paint brand dont matter although qaulity is key. clear plays the biggest role in fading, durability etc if you want good paint and want a good paintjob go through autobodys. ppg paint for the win idc what nobody says or what your opion is you get what you pay for i. i own a 2300 dollar paintjob on my ek hacth dont regret it one bit

WOW, other people agree with me, and the other "real" painters on here,..
again, you asked for advice.

Hey,

My wife has a 94 Camry with only 80k miles. We just got through replacing ALL the seals on it, including the rear main. Did some other stuff too while we were in there too (timing belt and so on).

Anway, now we're looking to get it a nice paint job. It's white now and we ain't gonna change the color. The seals and stuff cost us quite a bit and we have only about $1,000 left to put into a paint job.

I don't know anything about car painting. What should we be wary of? What should we ask about the way they do it? I don't want to take it somewhere and get fast talked and screwed.

The problem with the paint is it got Malathion on it years ago and the resulting dark spots on the hood, roof, trunk are all the way through the paint so I guess we might as well get a complete repaint.

What can we expect for $1,000? Anybody recommend anybody in the Tampa area who can do a good job for $1,000?

Talk to me, guys. I need someone to take me to school on this.

Thanks,

Mickey

people did "school" you on this and you did not care,
shall i go on?.....
mickey

C'mon guys. Is it going to be Maaco? We can go $1200 tops.

Macco quoted $800 for their "top of the line" Signature paint job with the Prep Plus package.

Good for you!

If you're driving down the street and someone points a fuckin' flamethrower at you, you'll have no worries.

it is a question of durability, you still will not take anyone's advice that has been doing this trade for years,.

I see. Before I was going to get overspray on my lights and tires. And they were going to spray over the Toyota emblems and on and on and on.

But since that didn't happen and the car looks fine, now it's a durability question.

I can't prove you wrong on this one since my time machine is broken.

Earlier you said the paint job would look like shit in 6 months.

I offered you a chance to put your money where your mouth is and bet you $100 it would look good in a year. You declined what you called my "petty" bet.

OK, sucker. How about we make it $500? You seem to think your prediction is a "sure thing." So how about? Don't tell me you can't use $500.

If you decline the $500 wager, it will be because your not sure of all the shit you've been slinging on here.

$500. Are you in or are you gonna fold? I love it. After you pay me the $500 you're gonna owe me, my paint job will have cost me a whole lot less. Perfect!!!
