Default Paint question:

I recently bought a 1991 300zx Twin Turbo and would like to fix the paint. I knew the previous owner (was a friend) and he didn't quite understand the importance of waxing and keeping the outside nice.

So now that I bought it, I'd like to fix it.

What the hell is this?

Also note the difference in color between the panels.

I tried rubbing it with a simple wax but it didn't make a dent. It's like it's stained. I plan on selling this car so if this was fixable it would be AWESOME!

Please PM me some estimates to if you do this sort of work. I can not really afford anything too expensive, but please send me your estimates and I'll figure out what I can afford.

Thanks!

Can you feel that shit on the paint when you run your hand over it? If so, claybar + buff might get it out.

Nah you can't really feel it.. And these pics were taken after it was washed at the DIY car wash.

You can see how white it is supposed to be towards the trim.. What's odd and also what makes me think it is repairable is that it doesn't seem to have chipped or anything.. just flat out "dirty".

Ideas?

I don't think so... I can rub my finger where you can see the good white against the stained white and it doesn't "dip" down.. In other words it doesnt feel as if the coating is gone. If anything, it feels as if the dirty area is HIGHER then the good paint.

I also feel that a good clay barring and buffing would be the best way to tackle this to start. If not, then possibly a wet sanding and a buff, but that always scares me.

pretty much, you could always try a good polishing compound as well before wet sanding. But changes are there isn't much paint left there, and claybar + polish + wet sanding might bring it to the primer depending on how much there is.

And the mis-matched paint, could easily have been from a wreck and they took it from a car that sat in the sun a lot more or a lot less than the other one.

what about a paint restore? I forgot what its called but I used it on my car I can find out later. Its just a liquid you squirt on and rub it in with a towel and let it sit for a few minutes. Rub it off and your paint looks great. My car had so many spots and the paint looked really dull in places. Put this stuff on and now my car without wax I see in it like a mirror its crazy how much dirt was taken out of the paint from it. Then I used a buffer and more came out my garage had dirt all over on the floor from the stuff buffing it out. My roof is SOL cause the clear is gone though.
