orange peel
keep your paper clean...1500 and 2000 grit don't usually scratch the paint, but a fart chunk from a rats ass will...that is to say "anything" ...dirt, sand,a pretty hard booger,a hair...almost anything will scratch the paint.

the orange peel is in the the clear not in the base unless its a single stage painted wrong.if u have 5 coats of clear all u need is a wet sand and buff.

Here is a picture of some wetsanding and polishing.
There should be no Scratches left over.
It takes many steps and 3 diffrent sand papers to cut the peel down nicely. In the QP pictures you can see the polishing in comparison to the B pillars.

4-5 coats of clear. if layed out right.that is plenty of clear to take down that orange peel with 1500/2000. when a compound buff/foam glaze. you should be good.
thats a right and wrong ? reason being it depends on how thick or thin the painter lays the clear down but on the other hand ur right a good 2-3 layers should be enough.theres a body shop in saftey harbor were my old shop use to be and he uses half a gallon up to a galllon of clear for the show cars he paints, even hondas
