need some opinions
I want to turbo a e36 chasis bmw. Im leaning towards aa's kit. But right now im stuck on what e36 I should get. Im wanting a 4door. I dont know if I should go after a 325i or a m3. WIll I make the same power with a 325i with the same turbo kit as if It was on a m3 also im looking at e36's obdII years. I mean for the moneys worth should I instead step away from the e36 chasis and move up to the newer e46 chasis and run a turbo kit on it? would I see any better performance? what would you do... start off with a e36 m3, a e36 325i or a e46 325i. for the price you can get a e46 somewhere around the same price as you can a mint e36 m3. thanks for your input.

Personally I would want to start out with an m3... you could always pick up a 4 door 325i with high mileage and swap in an s50/s52.

I was thinking about that I figured It would be cheaper on the insurance and probably save more money by doing this. I have tried to search google but not too many people sell the s52 motor. Im wanting to go with the s52 because it is the 3.2l. do you happen to know of any sites as to where I could find a s52 engine swap at? Also how complex is the change over. If I do go with the 325i Ill probably go with a obd1 car. how hard is it to convert the motor to obd1? whats actually involved in the swap? Im used to honda swaps which are alot easier to come by. My goal is to get away with a pretty decently fast bmw. Im a lover for autocrossing and scca type events. thats what it will mostly be apart of and hopefully a couple nice rides to seebring speedway will also be in its future. this car will be a all out race car with verry little to no street time if I go with the 325i. because of the cheaper price of the 325i I was actually thinking of doing a sequential gear box from http://www.hewland.com/ they seem to be had for little less then $15,000 that would be the ultimate setup with my own personal choice of gearing. does anyone in tampa know how to do a s52 swap into a early year e36 325i? im really wanting to try and take on as much of the project myself. sorry about the long letter. thanks for your reaplys rep points for all

the m3 is a bit better ballanced (weight ratio), handles a lot better, and has much better breaks than the 325, i've seen turbo'd m's and 325's and even a 328 and talked to owners of all of them, many of the guys that had started with non m's said they wished they had in the long run, as for the year and obd set up everyone i've talked to about them thinks is the best bmw to turbo is the 95 M3's obd1. with the obd2 they usualy convert them to obd1 before turboing b/c of tuning and flow issues with the obd2 set up also with the 95s your supose to be able to run more boost on stock internals than with the obd2 cars (not sure why exacty)
dado on dtmpower.net has had two turbo's m3's here's a link to a page of info about his current car http://www.dtmpower.net/forum/showth...hreadid=110353
lets you know if your goin to go all out what all your goin to need
hope that helps

good luck w the project! sounds like fun.....on bimmerforums there is a subforum on forced induction
thanks a lot. yeah well as far as the suspension and the breaks they are going to be upgraded anyways. they cant stay stock of course. Yeah I've scene a lot of people go with the 95 the only down fall of the 95 is the fact it is the 3.0 and not the 3.2
from my understanding isn't that big of a deal. but there is never replacement for displacement
my horse power goal is for 400rwhp. but the thing is I want to do it reliably. I want to be able to beat on the car put it on the trailer and bring it back out with very little having to be done to it as far as maintenance goes.
