Oh, to add insult to injury, that 500 HP M6 gets 18 highway, 12 city MPG, while chevrolets inefficient Z06 gets a crappy 16 city, 26 highway, ouch ....

The funny thing about this is that honda's my favorite cars/motors and I know plenty about them all....don't be so quick to judge slick.

It'd be a different story if GM had some OHC motors so they could actually make power over 6000 rpms where your tq/hp multiplier is higher. LS7 might make 475tq but that drops to about 350tq only 1800rpms later (8000rpm). Torque is all about peak cylinder pressures and displacement. It has a lot less to do with flow rates, which was the point I was making against your flow rate arguement. Lets compare 5L class engines then, since we're equating displacement with torque. Lexus 5.0L 2UR makes 371tq. The most powerful 5.3L L-series (including LS4 and the truck L's) is 340tq. Hey, what happened??

HP = airflow end of story. Your L92 (or L99 or whatever) head is great for having 300cfm in, but the 200cfm out is the limiting factor here. You might as well only have 250cfm in. If I can completely fill a 5.0L motor 7000 times a minute and you can only fill your 7.0L motor to 60%, guess whose doing more work?

Here's a little exercise. Car1: 500hp at 7500rpms, which is 350tq. Car2: 500hp at 5500rpms, which is 477tq. That's all just math. Adjust gearing so that they're going the same speed while making 500hp. Figure out which one has the most acceleration. GO!
Are you saying that the car with peak power would be faster in a 1/4?
If you are you have no idea what you are talking about.

If you have two cars that are the same chassis, weight, gear, and tire size with those numbers above, the car with more torque would win in a drag setup.

can we talk about some fun old motors like nailheads or Cadddie's? Cause after all there is nothing like making 475 ft/lbs at 2700 RPM's and not loosing more than 50 ft/lbs till your 6K redline . oh and that's with all Iron block, heads, and intake manifold with a single 4 barrel

and they are soo pretty

(and yes I know in this particular picture the motor has dual quads and an aluminium intake. but when it was dyno'd it was the stock steel manifold with one 4barrel.)

I'd like to discuss old small/big blocks as well. I knew that it would all be lsx series
though because a lot if people really don't have a lot of experience with anything else.

im glad you're with me chris!

that picture is of my friend Glenn's 407 Nail head that mondello race engines built. its a 401 thats bored .020 over with very minor head work, and a stock iron intake and a single 750 cfm carb it dyno'd 475ft/lb at 2700 and 385 HP at 4900. it now has the aluminum intake thats been worked over and a pair of 550 CFM demons (as pictured) unfortunatly it hasnt been redyno'd since aint nothin like a tractor motor

and 500 cadilac motors with the 472 heads are monstors too

AGAIN Z28RICER PROVES HE IS THE BIGGEST FANBOY of the LS1 around....

For those that have the ability to read, I stated that I was Not "sold" on the engine that z28 loves so much and I hurt his precious feelings when I stated that it may not be the second coming of christ in mechanical form as he seems to feel it is.....I never said that ALL of them sucked I am FAR TOO intelligent to make such a statement, but most of you know that. I have been in a number of LS powered S chassis cars and I know it is a great option, but it isn't the only one as he seems to think.

I simply stated that I have had multiple dealing with engine failure on the LS motor and that his blind devotion to a piece of engineering has caused him to take personal offense to anyone that doesn't believe the thing hes does.....

Once again, this is the internet, and you have turned an amusing joking comment, into something thats got your panties turned into one serious knot.

Please use this moment to take some time away from the keyboard, possibly go out into the world, and realize that if someone makes a joking comment about something you said, it is not the end of the world.

LS1 fanboy ? hahahaha, yup, I just woke up in 2009 and decided I wanted to be like all the other cool people and swap an engine into another car, and the LS1 was just the engine for this....

Too amusing.

I have a friend that has a 506 cube merc racing (boat motor based) bigblock in a old Malibu. It has the normal mods, heads and what not. That thing is retarded on street tires. Cruising at 60mph and laying in it just wonders on the road. I beg him to dyno it to see what kind of torque it makes.
