do not get a lawyer and fight it, or try to fight it on your own.. i had a very very long discussion with my uncle who is a corporal for the P.C.S.O. to make a long story short he said to pay it, and take a class to get no points. he said not to fight it because street racing and street racing deaths are such a hot topic right now, and theres an extremely high chance they will NOT be leiniant with the ticket and drop it, or give you a reduced fine.. he gave me alot more reasons and explanations and stuff but it's wayyyyyy to much to type.
you do know that cops get marks against them from writing tickets that just get dismissed. It costs the department a lot of money to write bullshit tickets... The officer can actually get suspended for giving out too many bullshit tickets...
street racing has been a "hot topic" for almost a decade now... nothing new....
just sayin...
it is a numbers game really when it comes to whether or not you should get a lawyer.
If you are going to get a minimal fine and have the option to take the class for the points, then go ahead. But if you can get a lawyer to get rid of the ticket for about the same cost, then do that. That way you don't have it on your record (just because there are no points, doesn't mean the ticket went away) and you have have to use one of your classes. You only get 5.
Every lawyer I've ever dealt with will consult with you about the ticket for free. That will let you know how aggressive the lawyer is going to be and what the lawyer feels your odds are for just getting the ticket thrown out. The last thing you want to do is to pay a lawyer a couple of hundred bucks just to turn around and owe the county a couple of hundred bucks too. Shop around. Not all lawyers are created equal. Some of them will just ask a judge nicely and others will fight the ticket until it is thrown out. When you find one of those, keep their number. Spread it around to your buddies.
You have to think about it in the terms of long term effects. Sure, paying the fine and taking the class takes care of the problem now, but what about when you get pulled over in 6 months for having a tail light out? Now the cop sees that you have a history of being a touble maker and they are more likely to give you a ticket, and perhaps even come up with other reasons to give you additional tickets. Now if you want to fight those, you have to deal with a judge looking at your history of being a trouble maker. They give people with histories harsher punishments to try and "straighten them out" and to make an example out of them to everyone else sitting in the courtroom. Even if you don't do anything wrong for a couple of years, and out of the blue, some dicked highway patrol gives you a ticket for "doin' 55 in a 54.." (sorry, couldn't help it...) The judge is going to see that you got in trouble for street racing a little while back and you've just gotten lucky and not caught for a while.
So the goal should always be to get rid of the ticket.
Sure, they got rid of the ridiculous street racing laws they had for a few years back in the day, but that doesn't mean they are not working on other ridiculous ways to hand out tickets to those "punk street racers" With the budget cuts and what not, there are more and more "improper equipment" tickets getting handed out. All you need is a street racing related ticket on your history when you get an improper equipment ticket for your loud ass exhaust...

Dont fight it ?
Sounds like bad advice to me, wasnt there for that event, but i've had the lovely "street racing" ticket, after the lawyer's had their say, it was reduced to "wreckless driving" (still bullshit, give me a break there werent any cars near us), on the bright side i got to hear the fat fuck cop cry about his G30 just like mine getting stolen when he took a recent plane trip, sounds like he got what he deserved, at any rate the "wreckless driving" wasnt nearly as bad as if I would have just waltzed in there and done what they wanted.

full on track cars can take a lot more liberties with shit than a street car. bell bottom kits and crazy wheel fitment look cool sliding on a track, but when i want to drive to taco bus, im going to ruin all of that shit. so it just doesnt work for me. function over fashion.

they shouldnt be asessing points against your liscence unless there was a true moving violation. being a passenger in a vehicle while WATCHING does not consititute that. hence why they WILL get dropped if disputed... but they will hve no problem taking your money if you decide to roll over and pay it.
fucking new tactics make me sick.
also, street racing stopped being cool in 1998. go find something else to do with your time and you wont have any of these problems.

I had the last ticket issued. However, more people left after that.
My ticket says 4:51am, paper said the last ticket was issued around 4:45am LOL.
edit: also, if I watch two people racing on the highway while I'm driving and a cop see's me doing so, can I get ticketed?
