What's your view on Drift tax?
So since there are atleast 2-3 threads a day in the FS section full of people calling "drift tax" because someone wants more than 2K for a clean 240, I thought I would make a thread on it. So just recently someone claimed I over payed for my MR2 and 240. I was wondering what the rest of you guys think. I payed $2000 for my old MR2. A 91 hardtop(extremely rare). I then traded that for my 240. Then I was showed a link to KBB that valued a 240 like mine for under $1900. So I ignored it until today when I got curious and put everything in exactly according to mine. Here's what I got.
1992 Nissan 240SX - Suggested Retail Value - Kelley Blue Book
Keep in mind 3K is for excellent condition, but mine is pretty damn clean, so according to KBB, my 240 should be worth atleast 2500. But, isn't a car only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it and not what a bunch of online douche bags say? Well, I've been offered $3k on more than one occasion. discuss.
P.S. This is a continuation on a thread that got deleted. I just felt I should post this up.

i agree with you to an extent but that is the retail value. if you look at the private party value, it will be much lower. But don't get me wrong, i'm tired of the whole "drift tax" thing. if your car is nice, than thats all there is to it.

People dont understand that our cars are getting older and every single day there is less and less of them. Instead people view it as they are getting older so they should be cheaper. You get what you pay for is how it is.. you want a busted hacked S13 for $2k then buy that you want a nice one pay $4k
KKB has their value, OMFGMYCARISPRACTICALLYNEW book value... add 1500.00
drift tax = whatever omfg jdm or knock off shit you have makes it worth more

I'm not selling my car, I'm just saying a lot of people bitch about drift tax, but 2500 seems to be normal for a clean 240 anywhere outside of TR.
