my new project
I got into the 240SX back in 1999 when my friend from school bought a 91 hatch for $2,500 for a beater. We hadn't even heard of a Nissan 240SX only knew what a 300ZX is. (Which was out of our price range.) After driving the little rear wheel drive import I began to really love the car and started hunting around for "upgrades" which as far as the engine was concerned = none. I dunno if old school is considerd 1999 but if any of you were up on surfin the net for car/import stuff like me. I came across this website called speedlab.com, this place was the takakaira of today. I saw crazy body kits for the 240SX and tons of suspension items. Then I saw all the engine upgrades for some engine called a SR20DET?? I went on the forum on speedlab and read about people doing this swap and talking about the JDM motor being imported. Back then almost no one knew what an SR20DET was and awhile later I stumbled across the SR20DET install page for a hardbody Nissan truck. Saw the black 240SX on the site too and it was love ever since.
My outlook on imports in 1998-1999 was pretty poor because the honda people were spending large amounts of money. They were barely getting 200HP if that out of a front wheel drive car. If you want to go fast you need to start with something that is fast IMOP. A V8 mustang can be bought cheap and run 11s without robbin your ass. When I compared the SR20DET being able to run 12s with just a few little mods combined with a 240SX weighing less than a mustang.
THAT WAS IT! An example is if both cars have 450HP, my car will win 4 sure granted the driving skills are there. I'm sold on this 240SX not to mention they handle awesome with a few suspension upgrades.
The reason for people all of sudden going for the 240SX and SR20DET is because of the main stream exsposure. Esp recently, you have sport compact car doing main articles on their silvia conversion.. You have super street which exploites the hell out of SR20DET/240SX, even back in the day they had a SR20 install article which was done at Vspec in CA. It has been made out to be a cool thing if you have an SR20DET lately. I kinda wish the magazines didn't make it exsposed like they have. I along with Mark and some others enjoy being differen't and I've almost thought about moddin a diff car cause the 240SX is now pop music. I still stick with it because you get the most for your money. It's like COCO Wheats, It can't be beat!
Now don't any of you go using this for a school essay, cause you'll fail.

honestly, who really cares who was the 1st "swap" in tampa, or florida, or the us, or the world. let's not take mark's post 5 spectrums off topic.
