Hey everyone, im new to the forums, but im not new to reading here. I just got a 90 vh45 soon to be put in a s13 and im wanting to put arp main studs in it but i cant find them anywhere. However, i was getting the crank out and noticed it came from the factory with main studs. Could that be why i cant find arp studs? Would the stock studs be as good as arp or are they TTY?

I emailed them, so far no response. But does anyone know the part number for the stock main studs?

 

Sometimes when I need a stock part number I visit the dealer parts counter.
I don't know about prices, but sometimes I will buy a bolt so I can get the
blownup drawing (which also has several part numbers on the same page).

Later on, from that stock part, I can give measurements to a high performance
parts producer.

You might also check with United Speed World on Florida Ave, Tampa.
A friend had them do some work on his motor (different car) to make it bullet proof.
They seemed to know what they were doing for his turbo'd Nissan.

At one time Nissan had a high performance parts catalog if a person wanted
to go racing. Do they still do that? What is NISMO?

 

I checked the parts catalog and they dont have anything for a vh45, q45 or a nissan president. I went to the dealership today and was able to get a part number but now i have a new dilemma. I took the vtc assembly apart (stupid decision because the manual says not to) and when i was at the dealership i asked one of their techs and they said when they go through their class they tell them not to take it apart and also said that 1 person took it apart but they got a whole new head. So they never reassembled it. This is starting to worry me as i heard the assembly is expensive. I wounder how far up i have to go with nissan to get this info?

 

Bad news on the vtc. You might try some junkyards.
I'm wondering how much it sells for.
Do you have a picture of it? Most things go back together the way they came apart.

What did you do to take it apart and why? .........wondering....

 

I took off the bolts holding the assembly to the cam sprocket. I didnt look at the manual before i started tearing it down (i only looked at the loosening pattern for the cylinder head, mains, ect.) i figured since i was tearing it down to replace the hardware with arp stuff, why not clean everything and make it less of a mess to put back together. Is that guy on tampa racing? If only he could share some of his knowledge?

 

He's selling rebuilts through the link at 150, so he may not be willing to tell you how to do yours for free.
What keeps a person from putting it back together?

 

I wish i knew. On the insides it has helical gears and there is no difference between teeth. The teeth it is on now is no different than me turning it 180* or 90* or even 45*, everything looks the same on the inside and it seems like the only critical part is where the assembly bolts up on the cam sprocket and where the sprocket is on the cam. I emailed that guy and he asked if i had the other side as a reference (which i dont). I hope he could still do it. Also i got a response from arp and got quoted $1200-$1600 for main studs. I guess ill be using the stock ones.
