We know that ARP won't break, but that's a lot for a non-race car.

I'm wondering if there are timing marks on that gear that will be reference points
to help with how it goes back on the car?

There are timing marks on both gears but the exhaust cam has a dowel pin in it which only allowes the cam gear fit one way and im guessing when you take the whole assemble off the intake cam there is only one way to put that back on, which would then make the timing marks on the gear accurate. I know where the cam gears are supposed to be timed at, i just dont know if when the cam gears are timed if the lobes are supposed to be facing up or about to open the valves for cylinder 1 (if you get what im saying). If only someone had detailed pictures right after they did their timing so i can see what position the cam was in.

From the picture in the manual it shows the intake cam dowel facing up. Like the way i positioned them in the other picture.
Then i unbolted the gear that i was originally supposed to take off of the cam and put that gear back in the assembly. (this is the only tricky part) the easiest way to do it as exact as possible would be when your doing the timing on it (which im not doing at the moment) then line up the timing chain to the correct teeth. I dont know if all the timing chains are like this but mine has a darker link so it makes this possible. So with the intake cam dowel facing up and the cam gear offset a little (from the way its supposed to be timed) put the assembly back on the cam like this.
I didnt bolt the assembly back together yet but thats the way its supposed to look like on the cam. As you can see the bolt holes are all the way on one side. They should be in the middle so you have some room to adjust them but if i were to take the assembly back apart and moved the gears over about a tooth that should bring the bolt holes in the middle of the slots.

Here is an example picture i found online. It shows each cam turned a little to the left from where they are supposed to be timed at.
Comparing them to this picture of my cams turned a little to the left (i dont know why the pic is upside down) they look almost exact. The position of the lobes on each cam look dead on in both pictures.

thats the closest im getting for now at least. I havent reassembled everything yet because i feel that whe im doing the timing on the motor i can get it more accurate. If i get it more accurate later on ill update this but if there is no more updates then this method is good enough. I might even update when i get this running to prove if this works or not.
