G35 engine replacement, shop recommendations etc
Greetings mates, been a long fucking time since I've been anywhere near this site! Hoping I can come back and lean on the community for a little advice, as I recently ran into troubles with my 2004 Infiniti G35 sedan which will require a full engine replacement. I am at the point where I need to decide where to get an engine and who to have do the work without getting raped in the wallet.
I've searched the junkyard databases online and have located what would seem to be good VQ35DE's for around $1600, and I think that is reasonable. Correct me if I'm wrong. What I'm not sure of is how much I should be paying a shop to do the job. The shop where my car is sitting (Guy's Automotive on Nebraska) has quoted me $3800 to source the engine and put it in, or around $1600 to do the work if I provide the engine. $1600 again seems reasonable but that puts the total cost to over $3k, and that seems expensive.
My questions:
Are these numbers reasonable? For the amount of money I'm going to end up spending, are there any other replacement options I should be exploring in terms of upgrades?
Do any of you guys have any recommendations for shops, or perhaps a personal mechanic that would work out a reasonable deal?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
