Default 2 questions in regards to s13 diff

1st)...
The stubs on the diff that the axles bolt to...
What is the "correct terminology" for the seals inside the diff, wrapped around the axle stubs?

2nd)...
Are said seals in question difficult to change?

I wanna say the they're called output shaft seals, or maybe axle flange seals . The one in the front being the pinion seal.

IIRC, to take them out, you just take the cover off, and unbolt the bearing caps (bolts are really tight lol).

You should be able to pop the axle shafts out and pull them out with a seal puller/screw driver or anything of the sort. Then pop you're new ones in without ever going inside your diff... Obviously, clean the area thoroughly and try to prevent scoring the seal surface.

I imagine that they would have to be bolted back to spec, right?

How would I just pop out the shafts? I figured they'd be fastened from the inside, thus the gears having to be unbolted and the lot

Rubber mallet will pop your side flanges out, if you have to, use a slide hammer.

Yea, I just looked at the guts...the shafts are splined in. I'll try a slide hammer and see what happens. I had the diff welded Sunday and rinsed/pressure washed everything afterwards. It's a little rusty inside do to the water residue so I'm pretty sure it's going to be a slight bitch trying to use a mallet.

Thanks Jr. The shafts popped right out w/ a slide hammer and the seals were right there. Now I just need to track down the seals.

One more question. The diff classification, it's an r200, right? I know it wouldn't be an r200v because the "V" would stand for viscous.

It shouldn't matter. All R200's have the same diameter stub axle just different lengths.

Haha nice, I must have been thinking of taking the internals of the diff out.
