ah, LOL...'nuff said David.

I think my blue hatch is sensing that the writing is on the wall relating to the end of its days. On a trip to Ocala and back i got 300 miles on a tank full of gas, something the car had never done previously. I'm convinced it knows that i'm about to pull its hear and guts out an transfer them into the other shell. I just hope to improved gas milage continues after the transplant!!

I wonder if I will hear a scream when i start pulling the dash out??

- omgosh - thats just crazy!!

My plans involve the SEM coating and the usual sand and fill method. I've heard baby powder and gorilla glue works well. The powder is finer that baking soda making for better sanding results. The Gorilla Glue explands and will flex more than a standard super glue would.

I've just searched and and read articles on other guys experiences. This will be my first attempt to repair a dash.

That being said, I'm open to suggestions.

im not sure what im going to do either, fill in the cracks, then either get it covered in some material, do the SEM coating, or flock it.

Wrapping is an option but then you'd end up having someone else doing it to get it done right and hopefully with some sort of guarantee that it will last. That gets into some $$. The SEM method seems to get decent results. Perhaps someone that did it on TR will chime in and let us know how it held up for them.

Youre welcome to come check out the process when I do it, even do a repair on it too. There's more than one spot to repair on the dash.

I would either pay for it to get professionally wrapped or flock it. The sem coating seems like it would come out inconsistent unless you sanded down all the texture on the dash first which seems like a whole lot of effort.

I've been looking into Flocking spray too. Its cool, but how would you keep that clean??

I am sold after checking out the results acheived in the following link, so I'm going to so the SEM texture coat method. Though i dont think i would use epoxy for the fix...something more flexible would be more desirable I think. The key is the top coat applied to the dash after an extra step of sanding the SEM coating. I believe that would take care of your issues with inconsistency David. My Dad once said (and i'm sure a few other Dads too) elbow grease is free.

It would be awesome to find a giant piece of heat-shrink to use for the dash repair...lol.

I have all of the SEM materials to do it right now. Cost me about ~$90 from Amazon for everything. I ended up filling the cracks, and haven't done shit since then to finish it (have not had time to work on the 240).

Here are two links for properly refinishing your dash, the first courtesy of Kevin:
