OEM electric fan not working
I have a question about stock e-fans. I just found my old stock electric fan from my KA set up and its still in awesome condition, better than my flexa-lites. So i tried plugging it in to where it connects to the body harness. Waited for my car to warm up, didn't come on, tried turning my A/C switch on, still didn't work. Any thoughts? Im thinking because i have an S13 SR in my S14 that the ECU doesn't pick up the reading since they came with clutch fans right? If im wrong let me know, and if you have a solution, please tell. Thanks
Yes, he's talking about the one that runs behind the clutch fan shroud. It's way too small and not sufficient to cool your car off. I know of one freak sr that was able to run only that fan and never overheat, still baffles me to this day.
I didn't/don't have a clutch fan shroud or clutch fan. It was just an electric fan attatched to my radiator when my KA was in. Right now my flexa-lites are wired too a toggle switch since it didn't come with a sending unit (i know its a completely wrong way of doing it, which is why im trying to fix it). One of the motors is dead so only one fan works but it's pretty sufficient at cooling it down, i just get tired of starring at my water temp guage all day, and with summer rolling around it's gonna be worse. So i was going to use my stock fan for now, until i can purchase new flexa-lites. Either way, it doesn't work anymore...
Buy a clutch fan and shroud.
Ehhh i don't know about that one dude. I like having electric fans. I was thinking of getting the HKS fan controller, but after some reading it says it plugs into the factory CTS, which i no longer have. And it also says that it wires into the ECU. Im not sure how that would work with an Apexi Power FC...
Please share your thought process on this one. Is it the fact that you'll lose all that jdm t25 powaH, you enjoy overheating, or you like looking at your water pump pulley?
Or the fact that it's alot cleaner looking and less of a pain in the ass when trying to work in your engine bay. Im just gonna get a fan controller and new fans. Problem solved.
Only makes it that much more difficult when changing belts, but how often is that anyways. For a lot less than new fans and a controller, you can have a perfectly working setup that you won't have to worry about again. I think it looks better too, but thats just a preference.
Since you won't listen anyways, at least direct the air from your electric fans by making a shroud or something.
