Default s13 speedo question

so, i have an 90 hatch, close to 170k. the speedomoter stays at 35-45 constantly. sometimes itll fall to 35 and slowly rise to 45 while accelerating, at any speed. is this most likely caused by the speed sensor? or should i rip the cluster out and see if the motor behind it is going bad?

oh and when i got the car the gas gauge was around 1/4, started driving it and it fell to empty and has been stuck there. bad cluster also? any help is good help. thanks

when you pull yours, you can check for little burn marks and things like that. double check that the connection is still nice and tight. if you're lowered or even a loud ass exhaust that vibrates the car, it can make that connection loose and that can cause the problem.

you can technically just swap out the gauge that is bad, but at that point, you might as well just swap the whole cluster. once they start to go, it doesn't take long for the whole thing to tap out.
