Sabotage? Or, something came apart?
Sabotage? Or, something came apart?
I picked up a 98 altima the other day with a locked up engine. I thought the timing chain had snapped and was stuck in the cover. I pulled the pan down and found these copper pieces in there and a lot of plastic (guide). After dissasembling pretty much the entire lower engine, I found a rod bearing had spun and siezed, and snapped the guide. Any idea where these might have come from? The largest piece is 1". They almost look like a copper o ring that have been hammered on. I am guessing the flattened pieces are from the rod bearing.
Any help is appreciated.

I don't know dude. I'm drawing a blank as to what that could have been.
either way, you either need a new engine, or you need to tear that one completely apart and rebuild it.

I vote sabotage... One less altima on the road!
HAHA!
I just have no idea where that stuff came from. Its wierd, and I am voting sabotage also. I have already torn it all down. There are no parts that I can see that are missing, or where it could have possibly been. The only thing I didnt take apart was the intake manifold. I even removed the oil pump in the front cover to look in there also. Everything is clean, its going together in the morning, and hopefully by tomorrow night it will be running again.

Sounds like what happened to my motor, timing chain guide snapped, went down and f*cked up the oil pump. I was a dumbass and ran it with the fucked oil pump, didn't care to investigate what the tapping noise was, a v8 dude I knew said to adjust the rocker arms and I laughed and said my motor don't have rocker arms, then racing a riced out mirage and FAIL, spun the 4th rod bearing. I know, I suck at life, but I'm learning the hard way.

ATTENTION.... installing a head gasket, head studs or pistons and rods in your otherwise STOCK engine dose not make it a "built" engine! stop listing you cars for sale saying they are built when its not!!
