Default Brake MC upgrade...

Guys,

I'm doing a brake upgrade...moving up to Skyline brakes. Because i know this will make my pedal feel like mush if i don't upgrade my MC, I'd like to know what you guys might suggest.

I've read this: The Definitive 300ZX Brake Swap Paqe and other brake upgrade info too.

So I have a good idea what is needed, but i am hoping to get some experienced feed back from those who have done this upgrade.

As always, any feed back will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
-Royce

Why Skyline brakes?
seems a little over kill.

my only experience with the 300zx brake swap was putting the front brakes and rotors on all 4 corners of a rx7 and using the 300zx master cylinder. we used manual proportioning valves to get it set up right.
This would stop on a dime. That is, if the tires would hold.
It had a nice firm, solid feeling brake pedal to it, but we used a smaller brake booster. I want to say it was from an s14... I honestly can't remember. I know it was out of a 240 though...

Front Skyline brakes (had the rear z brakes already) for $175 with front calipers/front rotors/and swap lines for all 4 corners...I just couldn't pass up the deal. Could you??

It is my understanding that there isnt a huge difference in Skyline vs 300zx brakes (2mm rotor thickness difference and a 12" rotor give or take a mm)...they use the same pad size and hardware (clips, etc). Like I say the deal was just too good to pass up.

I have read the 240 brake booster from an auto is supposedly a better choice. But I'm just fact finding...havent even riden in a car that had the swap done.

Get a brake booster from an automatic S14, and a 17/16" MC from a Z32 and you pedal should feel good and you will have the correct bias.

Thanks for the advise Chome...most of the blogs and stuff I've been reading indicate much the same. Your car was Z brake swapped correct?

Where might be a good place to source out those parts? Advance and the local bone yard might be good places to start, I guess.

I have Brembos on my car, but I am also running that setup. There are a couple of the MC with the fitting installed on Zilvia right now, and the brake booster shouldn't be too tough to find.

would you caution against making the caliper and rotor swap before someone has the MC and BB? Or would it be OK to drive on while youre searching for the other parts??

It would be fine. Your pedal would feel softer than usual but there are really no safety issues.

But you will have to bleed all the brakes twice if you go that route.
