300ZX questions (interested in one)
I just have a few questions, how reliable are the engines on the TTs? Im looking at a 93 TT 5 speed, what do these run in the 1/4th mile? And how much in mods/money does it take to get it into mid 12s, what exactly is needed and what to look out for? and does anyone have an interior pics of the car, thanks!
doesnt take alot to get in 12s but finding traction will be a chore unless u get some fat rear tires, i hear they dont hook very good sometimes. rear tires and maybe suspension should solve that.
anyways working on the motors whether it be a n/a or tt is a pain in the ass. it gets my "most crowded engine bay ever" award. as long as u dont have to do any major head gasket work or anything you might have a reliable car but to do almost anything besides spark plug changes, you spend a while pullin the motor or removing tons of stuff to get at what u want.

the motors are very reliable. The trannies on the other hand can be a big pain in the butt. People say they can handle 600hp, but I highly doubt that. Mine started losing 4th gear with about 360RWHP.
It will take you about 3,000 to get to mid 12's. You'll need Drag radials or slicks to get traction. I had 275/40/17's AVS sports and still didn't have traction once the turbo's hit.
Also, even spark plugs can be a big pain. I would only suggest getting one if you're VERY mechanically inclined.
they are great cars, but not fun to mess with mechanically.

Of the Nissan tech's I know, they pretty much all hate working on the 300's. They're very hard to work on. Meaning not only will it take you a long time taking parts off to just get to the one that you want to replace... but you'll also need a lot of tools with low clearance in order to do it (again, very tight engine bay). As far as how reliable they are... mechanically they're great, but it's the seals/gaskets you'll have to worry about. It's a lot of hard work to replace a head gasket... which either means you'll have LOTs of fun or you'll pay a lot for someone else to do it. One of the 20+ year Nissan Master tech's I used to work with told me don't even consider buying one of these (Z32's)... that once they start to leak, you're better off replacing the whole engine or doing a complete rebuild. The gaskets/seals all tend to go around 100k.
Up to you though... they're a blast to drive and still one of the best looking cars IMHO. A great Grand Touring car.

I had a question about the Z's at Z-Docs. Are they a reputable place to buy Z's at. I also maybe looking at getting a z32 or a S13 from there since my parents are good friends with Brent (the owner).
