Default Questions as far as swaps go...

I just found a great deal on a 91 240sx...the swap i originally wanted was a SR20DET from a S13...I came across a CA18DET...price is alot different (almost half the price)... Anyone have any inputs about the performance of the 2 motors...I have never heard of the CA18 motor all I ever see are SR20's...is there a reason for that??

They're old. 88-90 But a few people on this forum have done the swaps and succeeded in them not blowing up and sucking ass, but aftermarket support is your biggest hurtle for this motor.

hit or miss.

steer clear. Order from JDM of Miami, better customer service and 2day shipping.

buddy has one and thing is a tank. there is a lack of aftermarket for it but also they made a fwd version of the engine for usdm cars so you can go to the parts store for somethings.

they seem like a 4cy rb20 sorta theres alot of similarities like the valve train and intake manifold designs

google wont tell mi that there isnt a huge aftermarket for the CA18...thats what Nissan Tech is for. Im asking for anyone with knowledge on either platform to give me their personal opinion...and I have already gotten that. But thanks anyway. Im a noob to nissans so please dont hate mi for my interest in learning.

How about these digital speedometers?? I was looking foward to having one, but looks like this one has stopped working. Im sure it simply runs on a fuse and a bulb so one of the two will most likely fix the problem right?

Dude, if you want power buy an ls1 or rb. (They cost nearly the same when all is said and done.) There are many people on this forum who will argue to death over what motor you should or shouldn't put into your car. It all comes down to preference in the end.
If you want a little power boost your ka if it's in good shape or swap in an sr.
You can make decent power out of a ca, but the motors are a lot older and a lot more beat up than the average sr and many of the ka's floating around.
There isn't much aftermarket support for them either. (That means parts are much harder to come by.)
Broken digital speedo's aren't fixed by a simple wire and bulb either... rotfl

id buy motor from Enjuku personally, only because my SR from them was hella strong running and lasted through abuse and more abuse.

CA i agree with sean on the lack of aftermarket parts. and its heavier i think... its cheaper sure, but its end potential is not that great.

LS swap is no where near the same price as a SR/KA-T style... thats a lie lol. You might get lucky, but typicall SR swap is 2500 for most everything you need to 'start the car' and then you can upgrade, where just the motor/trans/computer for LS1 is usually 2500+ and then you need lot of custom/kit mounts and lines and a driveshaft and the list goes on. Typical 'cheap' LS1 swap is gonna run you $5,000-6,000 + to be running in a reliable way.
