are you pulling with a picker or dropping it out the bottom???
if with a picker do you have a load adjuster???
if you do pull it with the trans attached its easyer to get the trans unbolted/bolted on with it out of the car... its how i always do it. as for the speed limiter remove the speed sensors(or attach a switch to them so you can see how fast ur going in 4th and 5th with the switch off turn it on and no limiter but no speedo either)

If you do what^^ said, the speedo stops working once you flip the switch to kill the limiter. I've never heard of any idle issues by cutting the wire at the ECU. Something else you could do, is to put in an ECU from an auto 240. It removes the limiter.
never heard of any idle issues either.
as far as pulling the motor out, it is more work with the tranny attached in the sense that you have to take the shift out and unbolt the drive shaft and fight the rather awkwardly balanced load in and out of the engine bay
however, it can be a major major major major pain in the ass to get the output shaft to line up right when you pull just the motor out. Sometimes it will just slip together, other times it can take a half hour other times it will take several hours of being pissed off, going inside for lunch, then coming back out and it slips right together.
