Default Need info on a CA18DET!

Now, I'm not even driving yet, I'm turning 16 in September, but I am currently working on getting a job, and I have A LITTLE money saved up at the moment, but it's chump change, haha.

Anyways, I'm interested in saving for a 240SX, preferably an S13 Coupe, because it's my personal favorite. But I am only a kid, a kid with limited knowledge to engines. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a complete goofball, but I lack alot of knowledge that most of you on here hold, which is why I'm asking for help on this particular forum.

Well, I need the basics on the CA18DET. Pros, Cons, typical problems or technical difficulties, and of course any other advice you fellas feel like throwing at me.

I know it's gonna be quite some time before this becomes a reality, but I might as well start now. So there you have it, any advice/information, which I'm sure there'll be PLENTY of will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your valuable time.

im guessing this is going to be your first car? a CA18DET is an okay engine, it just lacks the torque and power that is easier to get to with an SR20DET or even a KA24DE. theres a lot of engines that can be swapped in but how come your thinking about the tiny 1.8 CA?

I've always liked unusual swaps. One night I had a dream to put a VTEC in a Daewoo Lanos, haha. But I know the CA is lower in power AND torque versus that of an SR20, but I just don't wanna be another person to do an SR Powered S13, ya know? And yeah, it would be my first car.

true, theres nothing at all wrong with CA's, its pretty much a 4 cyl RB they use similar parts, but the lack of any displacement holds them back, and since they are older engines any one you get will more than likley have an assload of miles on it and yeah, that SR fanboat is huge, like titanic huge, haha. i think you should look around for a decently priced CA block and build it like that. not some of TR's half assed projects

Any ideas on where to begin looking for a block to get me started? Heck, I don't even know where I'm gonna find a decent S13 Shell for a decent price..

This is gonna probably make you laugh, and think of me as an idiot, but when you say a block, so you mean JUST the block, or what exactly? I feel so dumb right now.=S

haha nah your right, CA's are older engines and that means high fucking mileage which sucks, which is why i suggest you getting just a block and head and rebuilding it, or a assembled engine that has been rebuilt, its just about what you want to do with it really

I truly just want a Daily Driver, ya know? Something to drive me back forth to School and work, when I get a job, haha. But unlike so many people that see a car as a machine to transport you, I know that it can become a part of you if you put the time and effort into it.=] I don't want it to be a machine, I want it to be a part of me, pieced together with the help of my blood, seat, and tears.
