ka24de idle issues S13
i have a 92 240sx dohc. its got about 130000 miles on it. nothing major, electric fan, injen intake. i am having an issue with the idle. the idle when im at stop lights usually drops to 400 rpms and goes up and down sometimes but usually sits at 400ish. idle goes up and down a hundred rpms. but it doesnt always run rough, sometimes smooth. feels like it might be miss firing. not sure. but like i said it doenst do it all the time. Spark plugs are a couple months old. the tips of the spark plugs are a chalky white color. when it is running completely smooth it idles around 600 or 700 rpms. im in the process of getting a new tps.

turn the idle up. (screw on the throttle body.)
due to the plug being white and/or chalky leads me to believe your car isn't getting sufficient fuel pressure and is running super rich (another reason why your car could drop rpms and give you the illusion of poor firing/timing), check you injectors and have them flow tested. if that doesn't work replace your fuel filter and possibly your fuel pump. checking distributor timing also wouldn't hurt. and i doubt it, but you could be running a plugs a tad too cold.
grab some NGK V-powers (BKR5E-11) gap to .39.

sounds like what was going on with my old 240 right before the brake booster went out.

Happened to every one of my 240's... I replace the fuel filter (5$), coil (15$), and plugs (20$) and they run fine after... either that or vacuum leak (Frizzle).. those are the first things I would check..

i replaced the fuel filter about 6 months ago but ill check the injectors next, but i read somewhere that if you run fuel injector cleaner that is what causes the chalk white color.

isnt there a valve or something on the back of the intake manifold near the firewall. me and jason sink were playing with this problem before and he just turned that and it worked perfect
