Name one performance advantage of top mount?

Yah don't think too hard.. Its done for looks, and is slightly detrimental to performance.

A reasonably sized turbo could be fit on the bottom. Its done for looks.

You can use longer runners on a top mount and still get proper oil flow on you return. try making a gt47 bottom mount manifold and see were your return hose is going to be.

Slightly detremental to performance? Where the hell did you pull that from? Do you suddenly know of clans of people running bottom mount GT30R's and raping top mount setups?

It's all packaging. Show me an elegant bottom mount T3 setup that keeps at least PS. I will not except some shitty log-type manifold just to prove your point. And....go!
