yea show me where you can find 35-40k ls1s that grandpa babied for the combo price of 5,000 with self install. remember base vettes are also driven by high schoolers and wives because of their price. Not all SRs were mad tyte dori'd either sayin that is just a bit much.

i wanna see the breakdown on that budget.

the ls1 swap is great and all but its not as cheap and easy as you are making it out to be, granted it will probably be cheaper than a VK/VQ swap (a VH swap is probably gonna cost you less than an RB25)

it can be done with the right connections but not easy. i got my complete ls1 w/ t56 trans and 38,000miles on both for 3500. those motor sets are out there but ebay is just outrageously expensive.

here's alot of good info on the swap.silviav8forums.com :: Log in

i'll probably spend more than 5k because im porting the heads and doing a cam, new clutch, ls7 lifters, etc..

but if you do everything yourself and leave it stock everything it can be done for under 5k.

buying kits is where your money goes.

Find me a complete low mileage LS1 swap with wiring harness, ecu, and tranny for $3500 and ill order it right now.

The kit is $2k, how do you plan I install it without the kit?

you use your fabrication skills. first take out your stock motor, and k member, then drop the ls1 in take measure from the fire wall to the radiator support and then from each frame rail so you have the motor completely centered and low enough to clear the hood and center the shifter in stock location then use either vette motor mounts and mod them or make your own. finally make a trans mount and then your headers. i dont feel like writing you an essay but all this information can be found on silviav8forums.com or use google.

as far as finding a motor set go on craigs list or ebay(if you get lucky) thats what i did. i found one in tampa and picked it up.

what im gonna do for mounts is the easy way out but expensive way and just buy the daft innovatons kit #1 for 1250 and be done.
Daft Innovations

just do research thats what i did. the swap isnt as bad or expensive as ppl think. most ppl that do the swap spend lots of money cuz they have it. but for ppl like me im closer to the budget build side

you could even just buy the daft mount kit for 700 that comes with the mounts, trans mount, and cross member so the motor is bolt on but you'd still need headers

07' 6.2 L92 Longblock - LS1TECH

here was a l92 setup for $2200

Ls1 shortblock 50k miles - LS1TECH

ls1 shortblock with extra parts for $650

or just call up any salvage yard and see how much they sell truck motors for since all they are are iron block LSx motors, just a little more weight
