Default important question

alright well i would like to start out that i bought a 89 240sx with a 96 duel cam swap that didnt run{great desision i know} i have changed out almost everything that i can think of, ecu, top wiring harnes, coil, fuel regulator, dizzy, spark plugs, knock sensor, today i got the new harnes on but i just smell gas and it seems like its getting flooded out, but with my foot all the way to the floor it runs just off of the starter and you can her it firing, when i disconect both fuel lines and put a little bit of gas directly in the intake manifold it seems like it runs better that way, and the timming is dead on and everything is right, its not throwing any engine codes so now im really cluless would anyone have any other ideas? thanks

did you replace the fuel pump?
the one that is in there is almost 20 years old. It most likely isn't putting out the pressure it should. It might be pumping gas, but not at a high enough pressure. If you haven't, then get on ebay and buy a walboro for 90 ish bucks. swap the pumps out and try again.
it won't throw a code for not enough gas... kinda wish it did, it would help to avoid all of that mess you've gone through thus far, but it doesn't
Try that out and post up the results...

well i did pull it out a while ago to clean the tank and it is a walbro 255 so im thinking is it possible that the fuel pump can be to big to flood out the motor even tho the injectors control gas? but i will look those up tonight

nope. the regulator controls flow. i know it sounds stupid, but make sure you have the fuel lines hooked up properly.

the fuel pressure regulator is the bell shaped deal with a vacuum line and the fuel line coming directly off of it. make sure that fuel line is NOT the one with the filter inline. the fuel line coming off the filter goes into the other side of the rail.

i cant tell you how many times i have seen this happen and it causes the problem youre having

well i checked looks like it was right, i typed in the part number on the fuel pump and its a 255 walbro, and im thinking cuase its got a stock fuel pressure regulaor it will cuase it to flood, i had a friend come over today and got it to run for about a minute by taking the fuel line on and off of the fuel rail while it was turing over and it started right up! so a stock fuel pump should fix all of this?

Also check the wires going to said fuel pump. Over time, they break down and cause the cars to run rough or not at all (duh). A nice hardwire kit, relay and fuse make sure you're getting all 12.7 volts.
