Default loud knock

i have a 96 ka that has a very loud knocking noise, i pulled the engine and i thought it was a rod knock, but it ended up everything is ok on the bottom end, what else could make that same noise? any suggestions would be appreciated!

yo it could be your timing chain guide... just take off your valve cover and look at the guide on top and see its if broken/ loose cuz ive seen that happen a whole bunch and that does cause a knocking/ticking sound... lmk whats up..

haha well i looked and i know what exactly your talking about, it looks like it was already been broken off, or gone, someone must of already removed it there is no trace of it. but i thought about the knock when i pulled the engine and right after i took off the tranny, on the fly wheel there was a bolt that was very loose, and it looks like it has been grinding could that be the knocking noise?
