1) For some reason the 2+2's have probs with driveshaft vibrations the coupes don't have, fix is new driveshaft $750 2)Turbo models have problems with oil line on right turbo clogging and ruining turbo. Nissan has updated line with insulation on it to keep this from reoccurring. We recommend replacing on affected models before turbo goes out. 3) Ign module recall-update. the oe module has problems and nissan replaces them for free under warranty. 4) Camshaft adjuster noise-leaks. These cars have hyd. cam timing adjusters that rattle and leak nissan has new version but this ones on you about $400 apiece + labor. 5) Auto trans models have problem with planetary gears exploding and ruining trans and radiator especially turbo versions. We don't recommend turbo automatics to our customers. The engines seem pretty durable (alot better than turbo RX-7's!) but they use some oil, must be checked regularly. We have seen several people run them out of oil and ruin the engine. It's very expensive, and alot of labor, to replace the engine even with used piece, especially the turbo models.
Trouble Spots
Consumer Guide's® Auto Editors have scoured repair bulletins and questioned mechanics to search for commonly occurring problems for a particular vehicle. In some cases we also give possible manufacturer-suggested solutions. In many instances these trouble spots are Technical Service Bulletins posted by the manufacturer, however, we have our own expert looking at additional vehicle problems.
Clutch: On turbocharged models ,the clutch may slip because the clutch-pedal return spring is too weak. (1990-91)
Fuel pump: Adding fuel-injector cleaner to the gas tank can cause corrosion on the fuel injector coils, which will eventually damage them. (1990-94)
Poor drivability: A problem with the power transistor causes drivability and idle problems, and there was a voluntary recall to replace it. (1990-93)
Power seat: The original power-seat switch sticks out and is often kicked and broken, but there is a revised switch with a shorter lever and stronger housing available. (1990)
Water leak: Leaves and other debris can collect in the evaporator housing, clogging the drain and causing water to leak into the passenger footwell. A revised cowl screen is required. (1990)
Windows: The power windows may shudder during operation requiring revised window regulators (1990-91), or the windows may not operate due to dust building up in the main power window switch. (1990-92)

98% of the time the reason the brake lights stay on is because the piece of plastic on the pedal that that makes contact with the switch is broken. Use a dime/ducttape/jbweld/etc to fix.
did anyone else get as annoyed with this thread as I did?
it started with a really general question that you had to break out the decoder ring to understand.
it got a very good answer to that very general question
then, realizing that wasn't what the actual question should have been, it was re worked into what the original question should have been. which in turn is a rather basic and very common issue that can be easy fixed by searching.
.......... or maybe I just need another shot or something....

Why would you "+1" something that is incorrect? If that plug falls out then there is nothing there to make contact with the switch so the lights will not come on at all.
I'll agree with the switch being bad but not the plug. If the switch is good then I would look for a stuck relay or a short in the wiring.
