i have a quick question for you guys. thought i would just ask in here so i dont have to make a new thread. what is the best oil to use in a high mileage ka?

has anyone ever used mobil 1 0w-40? cause my motor does what he explains what his car does. just getting some input.

 

i use 0w 30. 0 weight oil gets to operating temp faster and has less friction rating at startup so its less damaging to your engine. also i dont think thinner oil will help you with the tapping, it may actually make it more audible.

 

hmm. ok. thanks for the input. cause my engine does everything that he describes, but when i drive i still get ticking noises dont know if its the timing chain, injectors, or valves. and when i start it up in the morning cold, my rpm's go pretty high and my timing chain rattles pretty damn loud. could it just be the oil thats causing all of this?

 

depends on the tick, not enough oil could be a problem, or if its a KA then most likely its the chain or one of the guides.

 

well my top guide is still on, im still contemplating if i should take it off or not. i heard nissan says its pointless.

and for the oil. im using castrol gtx 10w-30. im thinking about trying royal purple. i heard that stuff is the shit.

 

hmm. im probably gonna get some royal purple 0w-40. im reading a shitload of good reviews on it.

I hope you guys running 0w oil are non-turbo and have an oil cooler...

 

i also wouldnt switch to synthetic on a high milage engine.

 

been using synth in the stock KA since 100k miles. used to use 10w30, but since summer started the most driving is do is the 14 mile roundtrip to and from work so i started using 0w30 (been about 2 months since, still got 900 miles till oil change) . Start up is def alot smoother than with 10w30.
