That didn't look like an intentional 360...

Niiice dude...I have been wanting a pathfinder for dd/tow duty as well. Looks nice man.

Went and looked at a local hatch today that I've had my eye on for a while now. Picking it up asap, finally had a chance to check it out up close/inside/under hood etc...Paint is a bright doo doo green, has chrome dragon head windshield sprayer covers, and 8 screw holes on hatch where a wailtail once sat. Dude told me he got it from a mexican, after that all became clear, lol. I'll post pics so you guys can have a good laugh as soon as I get it to base.

LOL. Haaaave fun towing a car on a trailer with a 4Runner. I tried it once and I'd never consider doing it again. At least not with some good trailer brakes. I had the same year/limited/4x4. The only thing that might be doable would be a car dolly... but even that's pushing it.

Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome daily, just not a big enough truck to tow a car/trailer with.

Trailer or tow dolly?

And there's a difference between doing something once or twice in a bind and using it as your racecar tow vehicle on a regular basis. 3rd Gen 4Runners have shitty auto transmissions and rear axles to begin with. Subjecting them to big loads is asking for failure. Plus the rear suspension is too mushy for a big trailer load. The truck starts to feel real squirrely on the highway. The brakes totally suck too (with a trailer and a car behind you.)

At the very least you need to run an external trans cooler and get rid of the one that's in the radiator. The one that's in the radiator has a nasty habit of mixing coolant in with the auto trans fluid, which quickly kills the trans.

it was with a trailer. Had to use blocks to keep the rear end from scrapping the ground.
Can't say it was fun. lol
Had to do it a few times. for a total of at least 600 miles. Nothing ever brakes close to home. lol.

But yeah, I wouldn't do it regularly.
I was just busting your balls about it.
People get so hung up on the "you have to have a truck and it has to have this, this, and this to be able to tow anything" Almost as if they forget that towing something is mainly about driver skill. Pay attention to what you're doing and how you're doing it and pretty much anything can tow anything else.

thoughts on original Xterras? My folks have the auto 2wd VG33ER version that they occasionally tow a 4500-ish pound dual axle boat/trailer. Not sure how far I'd tow with it.
