i've heard that too, its a myth.

i think someone was talking about running dual exhaust cams and tried to sound like he knew what he was saying and then messed it all up and whoever heard it, believed it and proceeded to tell everyone else.

as for the timing, you can advance it some... i don't think it will net much of a power increase, however you might get some better throttle response. its not like a honda where you can break the tires loose by advancing the timing a few degrees. (exaggerated, but you get the point)

KA's dont have secondary butterflies. its a single runner manifold. there are a set of butterflies right at the head in the manifold that help low end torque, though.

i had 158hp/159ft lbs in my KA and spent little money to do it. considering stock number on 240's is 136hp/128tq thats not bad.

i had a gutted cat, Apex'i N1 catback, cut up airbox and advance my timing to 21 degrees. i then ended up rerouting my intake to the throttle body side by using some crappy discount auto civic shortram and lenghtening my MAF wiring. that made all the diff in the world top end. the car ran a 15.2 in the 1/4 which is almost a full second faster than other stock ones ive seen.

btw, the car had 215k on it, too!

you dont 'need' headers, but they do a nice job. especially the OBX ones. suprisingly, for the price, they are the best out there.

pretty sure theyre not. theyre only known as that name by people that have no idea WTF secondary butterflies really are.

secondary would denote the addition of a PRIMARY set of runners. KAs do not have these. single runner manifold.

I believe it is called the SCV (Swirl Control Valve).

It was deleted on the S14s so you won't find it in those manifolds. It is there to improve fuel atomization at partial throttle. And it is supposed to open fully at WOT but doesn't actually open all the way. So it kinda restricts airflow. But you'll see alot of S13 owners describe like a surge of power when flooring it and once they get to a certain rpm.

It is safe to take out as far as I know. I plan on taking mine out one of these days. You have to plug the holes up though. Not like that is hard though lol.

theyre refered as secondary from what i understand because they come second after the TB butterfly.

when you say a single runner manifold, do you mean that there is one runner per cylinder or on the whole manifold?

i'm no nitrous expert, but i would imagine that 100 shot wouldn't kill ya, could be wrong though.
i do know that nitrous loves compression, so a cheap way to do that is grab some SOHC pistons and toss those in. Depending on the year they came from, they will yeild something around 11:1 compression. I can't remember the years, but i know there was a difference between the older sohc and the newer ones. between the pistons, the nitrous, better tires, headers, exhaust, and a creative intake, you ought to be running some pretty nice times, for not a whole lot of cash.
have fun
