I dunno how 240 autos are..I've only owned 1 auto car and it was a 91 sentra xe...GA16de ftw!..lol...but your tranny maybe fubar?

 

I haven't had any problems with mine and the 2nd owner for over 4 yrs. I'd suggest if you're going to beat on your car and is a daily driver go 5sp. Alot cheaper (IMO) than replacing auto trannys when they break.

 

auto trannies are cheap as hell....

 

auto trannys are either dirt cheap or free cuz no one wants one


after much head scratching and what not, i've narrowed it down to a few possibilities....
1 - the TCU is bad
(bad or disconnected 2-5)
2 - inhibitor switch
3 - the over drive switch
4 - the kickdown switch
5 - the idle switch

I don't want to work on parts that don't need it (TCM) so, anybody know where 2-5 are and how to test them?

fuck it...just swap it out...DC sells auto trannies for $100 and i'm sure you can beat em down even more cuz they just throw em away.

 

if it was the tranny itself, then yeah i would, however most of these sensors/switches aren't even on the tranny. therefore, i would still have this problem even if i wasted money on a new one....

 

well, i sent some time with a FSM and i learned some things, but nothing that pointed out the exact problem. I did learn that the tranny will shift without the control unit. I mean, you can push it into 1st and then into 2nd. D doesn't do anything but that was expected. So the tranny itself is good.
Its got to be a sensor somewhere..... or the control unit itself.....

anybody got one laying around that I could borrow for a day or two?
