we got it thanx.....then a few hours later it spun a bearing.

 

It does work... i just did it. why wouldn't it work?
Unless there was some strange lapse in time-space where physics didn't apply...

usually it wouldnt because the pressure plate dosnt apply the amount of force needed to hold it in place. maybe if you had a stronger than stock pressure plate, but with a stock plate its not always possible

 

I have seen it done with a 1/2 ratchet with the socket attached and a piece of pipe. Put the pipe on the ratchet, set the ratchet in reverse, put the ratchet/socket/pipe on the pulley bolt. Pull down on the ratchet till it touches the ground, and have someone go work the starter for a second. IT WILL break that bolt loose, and in my case, remove it completely.

I discovered this by accident one day because I was adjusting timing on the KA and was using the ratchet to turn the engine to TDC. It was late and I was frustrated and forgot to remove the ratchet before I went to start it up again. Heard a strange metal noise, cut the car off, and went to take a look. There on the ground was my pipe, ratchet, socket, and crank pulley bolt.

 

You might remove it by putting it in gear with the brakes on
while you use a breaker bar..........as others have said.

Spray it with blaster, let it soak, Kick the br-bar suddenly, and the shock
will break it loose.....................be sure you are going in the proper direction............. -Bob

 

putting it in gear and pulling the e-brake has always worked for me.

 

i know i've got a stock set up and it worked for me.
it won't work if you are in say 1st gear. something to do with the ratios and pi and all that fun stuff. i know it doesn't work in 1st because my helper put it in 1st the first time i tried it and i just turned the engine. not giving up so easy, i corrected his error and did it again. the engine gave alittle, but didn't rotate. I thought i broke something when it finally broke loose.

 

mind lapse. i forgot las time i did this the motor was out of the car.
