wedge soething between the downpipe and the bottom of the frame, like possible a small scissor jack it will angle the motor down a little to give you some space to get to the top tranny bolts. where do you live, lets do our tranny swaps together.

it sucks without having a lift.
you can get to all the bell housing bolts with various extensions and swivel joints. Luckily the SR doesnt have a bolt at the "12 o'clock" position (like KA), instead it has one at both the "11" and "1" position- but they still are not fun to do.

when you go to put the trans back on the engine this (quote) helps alot.

^this will angle the rear of engine downward and become your BFF (best friend forever)

IMO without a lift, I would rather pull the entire engine/trans out and then work on it, and reinstall the entire engine/trans.

or u can just have all your tools lined up, jack up your car as high as you can with jackstands and bench press a little and use another jack to help lift up the tranny. this is ideal with 2 people. it's not that hard.

You can get to all the bolts pretty easy from under the car, and the top two use a wrench from under the hood. it takes me about 30 minutes to remove all the bolts from the belhousing. And yes extensions and a swivel joint will be your best friend in this project.

Also, I usually remove the upper bolts first then the lower ones.
