SR/KA build?
Probably will regret making this thread.
I am just curious as to what a good first build would be. And not necessarily an everyday driver, but at least street ready. I'm talking block, internals, etc. Not just a bunch of bolt-ons (well, maybe a few
). This is probably an application for a drag/street setup, not drifting, so basically looking for a more high-end power ready engine rather than the typical low-end drift setup. This is why part of me is leaning towards a KA build. Because if I heard correctly, the KA24DE can hold higher HP gains than the typical SR20's, but I might be pulling that outta my ass. I'd also like to experiment with a turbo equipped engine though, so the other half of me leans towards an SR build. I know I could try KA-T, seeing as apparently thats the new hotness, but I dont want to risk it with a less reliable engine setup route, on top of this being my first build. And it seems that community knowledge wise, I'd get a little more help on the way with an sr20det, anyways.
Im not trying to ask which engine is better, but what engine would be the better build experience, with a decent outcome. Say what you will...

Both stock engines have similarly sucky cast pistons. The SR has stronger / more reliable rods by a long shot. I don't think people are breaking cranks, but the SR has a fully counterweighted crank, versus the KA's 4 weight crank. The KA has a much simpler head design that is basically indestructible, versus the failure prone SR rocker arm head. The KA head also flows very well stock, but the same can be said for the SR as well. KA cams are limited by the clearance in the head, so they can't get too crazy like SR cams. No one makes a production intake manifold for the KA. The aftermarket for SR's is enormous, but spare KA's are relatively cheap. So many companies stock the JDM-only OEM Nissan parts now-a-days that it isn't even an argument anymore.
These days, any piece of crap engine from a daewoo can be built to make 400+ whp, which I'm sure is more than you'll make if you're having this debate. So given that, just flip a coin and post up when you finish your build!
By the way, I reserve the right to close this thread at any time due to the standing Nissan Tech Forums rule as per below:

personally i'd say try the KA-T....then get a friend with an SR...compare...then decide if you like the KA-T over the SR...also check out other forums like zilvia, nico, and club240sx...
heres one on a honda site
Hey look it's an SR20DET vs KA24DET thread! - Hondaswap
if all fails...get this

Right, sorry. I wasnt trying to sound like I wanted to know which one was better. I was just curious to see what some of you would recommened jumping into as a first time learning experience, like which engine would be more beneficial to learn from/work with.

Yep. Straight out of your ass. Even though this is hardly representative, the highest KA is in the 700's, where the highest SR is at 998whp.

btw, xsessive motorsports is an aftermarket intake manifold. as well as AMS, but AMS's isnt out yet. it would be nice to see a greddy one made (thought many a time about getting a freddy in. mani. and hacking it up, but no one likes to weld cast alum. lol).
id do a ka-t my buddy did one on 9 pounds and it was very fast and very fun it have a little over 200000 miles whe he turboed it and about 30000 miles later he got rod knock becus his oil light didnt turn on and he was really low in oil same thing happened to me but i cought it in time
