...cant you tell by looking at a clutch if its bad or not????? I really doubt it has anything to do with the actual clutch, I would go after the installer... Or like Ian said, the bearings should have been replaced. Good luck man!

ian beat me to it, but he asked the right questions.

is it a full disc or a pucked clutch? pucked clutches do not require break-in when new, but even if it was a full disc, its used = no break in. i'd definitely play with the pedal adjustment, you might just not be having full engagement, or perhaps you need to bleed the clutch line if there's any air in there it would make adjusting the pedal useless.

also did u just slap it on the stock flywheel that was in there? the flywheel might need to be resurfaced (turned). it's not necessary being with a used clutch, but it might have some wear and small grooves in it from the prior clutch that may be preventing the new (used) one from grabbing properly.

i will leave this open seeing as you guys seem to be working it out. if it needs to be deleted later on, so be it.

btw - a shop is truly judged not on it's initial business, but it's ability to fix a customer's problems. just be polite and professional about things, im sure ian can help you and maybe check it out for you.

From the way it looked, the clutch was a OEM replacement made by Excedy. The life of the actual clutch disk is excellent. If there was something faulty with the complete assembly, it would have to do with the actual pressure plate. I am not trying to dodge out of blame, I will do what's needed in order for the customer to be happy!

When you mentioned the clutch being 'fried', what exactly is it doing or not doing? Generally if the clutch is faulty, it will show as soon as you get on the road. Give me a call and we can figure something out.

DAN - a pucked clutch does not need to be broken in? What's the theory behind it? I am asking because I have personally told customers that all clutches needs a break in period. Let me know.

ok well thanks for being cool bout this, yea i picked the car up and when i engadged the clutch i herd a slight whistle noise. then i drove for about 20 min and the pedal started to stick a little and the car started sounding like a toy wind up (whinning) so i got it back to there shop (they were closed and the guy said he'll look at it tommarow) but i bearly made it the pedal stuck to the floor and then it was totally not working when i got there. They did put in a new throw out, and it was on my stock flywheel. Im gonna give them a call today and see whats going on then ill give the shop a call. Thanks,
Alex

"then i drove for about 20 min and the pedal started to stick a little and the car started sounding like a toy wind up (whinning)"

If the pedal is sticking, it can very well be improper bleeding of system, bad slave/master cylinders. As for the whinning, sometimes if the throwout bearing isn't properly pressed onto the cone (cockeyed), it can produced a whinning noise. Now, I have owned MANY 240sx and the throwout bearing whin seems to be pretty common amoung the model.
