workin on a freinds car and we are stumped? car turns over but sounds like it is being run by the starter. few little pops out the exhaust and thats it. It has fuel and spark but sounds like no compression. All fluids are good....no blown headgasket.
any ideas????

Check timing and advance if retarded, per the FSM (I assume you have a copy laying around)

Otherwise come back with a little more info...

twin cam, og motor, hasnt run in a few months, gas smells and looks fine, tried kicking it several times,got spark, did timing several times, swapped ecus... car was bveing drivine down the interstate at around 60-70 mph when it died... hasnt run since then......

 

THe motor cranks though? as in its not ceased up?

Try starting fluid?

Honestly as I just heard about this earlier today, the ECU harness plug can sometimes flex and not make contact. Make sure its tight bolted back in and press down on both sides while trying to start it.

If it stopped while driving, it sounds electrical as in a wire somewhere melted or came disconnected, it ran fine before this?

Check the oil (for metal) or have a compression test done?

 

yeah i agree on the elct thing.. compression test was alright..( dont rem exact numbers).. no metal in the oil. the entire motor cranks over and over.. the starter just spins te motor.., no combustion no kicking.. just smoothly turns over and over...

 

your positive you have fuel making it into the cylinders? are you injectors working? is the fuel pump kicking on and making the priming sound? Have you checked all the fuses/relay's under the hood? yes it is getting fuel, and the fuel pump is working.. we pulled the hose and all that.. the only thing i can think of oquld be the injectors... but the car smells of gas after we try over and over again.. so the belief is that it is flooding.... is there ne way we can check the injectors to see if they are working..??.. what relays would cause the car to do this/??? we checked most of them..but i suppose there could be one we missed somewhere.

 

plugs have gas on them injectors are workin.
